TOPIC: How silver coins are made
#11860
How silver coins are made 1 Year, 8 Months ago Karma: 193
Here's an interesting and informative clip put together by Endeavour Silver and production company Storybubble Media on how silver coins are made from the the refined metal.

The coins being made are the silver "rounds" put out by Endeavour Silver itself. I confess to not knowing precisely what the difference is between a "round" and a "minted coin" - so if anyone can shed any light there, feel free to speak up.

These guys always put out good videos. If I wasn't on my blackberry I'd reference a few more of them.

Correct me if I'm worng, but "rounds" are simply blank coins, whereas a minted coin is stamped with a design of some sort. Rounds carry less premium anfd I guess they could be compared to holding bars. I've never purchased any rounds so if anyone else has please let me know what attracts you to these vs. Bars....maybe because they fit in the tubes for storage purposes?

Yep the video was enjoyable and though i had already seen it on youtube, glad you posted it here. Well 'rounds' refer to coins minted by private mints, while 'coins' refer to coins minted by government mints. So you will see people say Maple Leaf silver coins and APMex silver rounds.

So then the difference is largely semantics. Lol!

I suppose the national mints will insist that their coins are more elaborate and "artistic", but ultimately a coin's a coin - EXCEPT for the interesting distinction that SOME of those coins are "legal tender".
