"Trilateral peace talks in Britain to send clear message to the Taliban", this heading of the news article made me chuckle! it is full of arrogance, on the one hand all of the world knows that the western armies have been hammered in Afghanistan to no end, and that the edict of the Karzai regime is restricted to the green area or at most Kabul.

And the surprising part is that this "peace talk" is being held to send a "strong message" to Taliban.

What makes this even funnier, is that peace talks generally happen between warring parties, not between the elements of one side as in this case, where the "peace talk" is being conducted between UK, Karzai regime and the Pakistani president!

My cursory reading of history tells me that that the only time oligarchs talk of peace is when they are loosing the war, and want time, either to regroup or to pull out with as much respect as they can salvage.

Lol Samix!

Yes, the tired, old mantra that "we don't negotiate with terrorists" gets ripped up and thrown away as soon as the "terrorists" are winning.

But one thing confuses me: is the "Afghan High Peace Council" a Taliban contingent, or what? If not, it looks like they're scheduling a "peace conference" -- but with no assurances that ANYONE from "the other side" will even attend...?

From what I have read on other sites and from what I have gleaned from them is that most this Afghan peace council or other such meetings where the west says that the Taliban had sent a representatives are imposter Taliban. The Taliban it seems are clear on the terms of the dialogue, complete withdrawal of oligarchic forces from Afghanistan.

Lol! That was what I read-between-the-lines myself.

So basically the West (and their Afghan/Pakistani puppets) are holding "peace talks" with themselves -- hoping that one day the Taliban will actually send someone to the Circus.

Maybe if they announced they would be "serving snacks"...???

I tried to collect some maps about Afghanistan with respect to the area controlled by the western forces vis-a-vis the Taliban, which can give further context to these peace talks

2007:

I am not able to find any relevant maps after 2009 in my brief google search.

Notice that in all the maps about, Kabul is surrounded by the Taliban considered as "Area with heavy insurgent activity"

Attending the trilateral 'sell out' talks seems to have helped zardari if not Afghans atleast.
Switzerland refused to reopen a long-running graft case against Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari as he enjoys immunity as head of state, Pakistan's law ministry said on Sunday.

Lol! Nothing like knowing that the head of a (key) neighbouring state is "dirty". Blackmail is a very effective lever for guiding one's Puppets...
