This brief news item will obviously make our resident "nickel bull" Navderek quite happy.

Personally, I still remain skittish about this market, as the "substitution factor" with nickel makes me nervous any time I see this market take off.

At the same time, none of us would/could/should hold 100% precious metals portfolios, and none of us have crystal balls. So we all need to look for OTHER "commodities" niches in which we can diversify at least some of our holdings.

"China’s Nickel Import Demand ‘Surging’ as Macquarie Says It’s More Bullish"

www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-09-10/china-...-s-more-bullish.html

Nickel import demand in China is “surging” because of a shortage of nickel pig iron, Macquarie Group Ltd. said, citing unidentified sources.

Nickel pig iron, usually a cheaper alternative to refined nickel, is now more expensive, Macquarie said in a report dated Sept. 12. A trading company in China may be building nickel stockpiles to start a nickel exchange-traded fund, Macquarie said, citing reports without identifying the authors. “These factors make us more bullish about the nickel price outlook in the short run, even though we maintain a forecast of a large 2012 surplus,” Macquarie said.

Well I do like nickel, and beavers!!! LoL
The way I see it, for a young guy like me in it for the long term, pretty much any commodity play is good. Well most commodities anyways. I'm strying to capitalize on the negative growth sentiment because to me it's all just an illusion as opposed to the REAL global macro picture where populations are exploding. The US is not the world.

There are suppliers here in Southern Ontario stockpiling Nickel and other steel making raw materials.....I like your comment and agree..."The US is not the world".....we may suffer here in Canada if the US continues to plummet.....but hopefully we will come through better than the last time [2008].
